。。 This was the Day…

This was the Day when it happened. Exactly one year ago. 2:46 PM in Japanese time, 1:46 AM in our time. I never could have guessed what began as I went to sleep that night.

I cannot adequately express what I feel for Japan in words, and my Japanese is not good, but Japan, know that I care deeply, and that I long to be with you. This haiku is dedicated to you in memory of this day. May it bring you hope.

At the end of night,

In place of the darkness,

The morning light.
